McNamara defends Catalans Dragons’ away form

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara believes there is no issue with his side’s away form after they were handsomely beaten by a young St Helens side, 50-14.

The Dragons are the only team to have beaten St Helens this year, to date, but they were unable to replicate that earlier form away from home on Sunday.

“We want to win games whether they are at home or away,” said McNamara. “We can play away and win games, there is no mistake about that, but today wasn’t one of those days.

“Saints were jusst very good; with the personnel they had out there and their fresh bodies, they had too much energy for us.

“We have had some reasonable success against Saints both this year and last year, but today we just offered too much space to them. The quality players they have, and the speed they’ve got was just too much for us.”
