Mulhern desperate to make a statement in trial runs

Hull KR’s signing of Leeds forward Robbie Mulhern was one that most certainly fell under the radar.

The 21-year-old agreed a deal with the Robins last month as Chris Chester added reinforcements to his pack by signing the youngster from Leeds Rhinos.

He joins the club, self-admittedly, down the pecking order, but with pre-season friendlies against Huddersfield and rivals Hull FC coming up in the space of the next ten days, Mulhern is determined to force his way into Chester’s immediate plans.

“I can’t wait for the first friendly and I just hope I get some good minutes in me,” Mulhern told the Hull Daily Mail.

“I need to go out there and not hold myself back. I know I must earn the respect of my team-mates firstly but I want to become one of the best players on the park.

“Huddersfield are a really strong side to face in pre-season. They’ll be wanting to challenge for titles this time around so it’ll be good to face that sort of team and give that a good test.

“It’ll stand me in good stead for the rest of the season, so I’ll have to give a good account of myself against Huddersfield and FC next week too. Then I’ll be aiming for a spot against Castleford Tigers in round one.

“A lot of teams play lower league opposition in pre-season and put academy boys out, whereas we’ve got to be really on our game for both fixtures.

“Obviously with the friendlies there’s a lot more rotation and we use the full squad. As long as I give my best and make an impact on the field, I can’t do much more.”
