Off-contract NRL stars we’d love to see in Super League

Josh/Brett Morris

OK, a double whammy to start with, but this twin duo has teased us on several occasions about a Super League switch – there was even a suggestion they’d try to play for England!

Whether they remain at the peak of their powers is a debate for another day, but the duo would still have a fairly sizeable impact in Super League.

Both Australian internationals, there would be several clubs open to talks should they be keen on the idea.

Kevin Naiqama

It looked for a long time that the Fiji captain would be playing his rugby in Super League this season.

In the end, he re-signed with Wests, but with his contract up for renewal again some of those interested clubs may consider another move for the speedster.

His flair puts bums on seats, and he’d be a good recruit for the competition.

Isaac Luke

At one point he was regarded as one of the best in the world in his position.

Sure, Isaac Luke may not be held in that regard currently, but his class is still apparent.

The New Zealand international would be a big draw for most clubs in the competition, and he’d be a big-name player we all want to see.

Akuila Uate

Admittedly, the likelihood of this happening is slim, but the 30-year-old would fit right in the Super League scene.

He’s enjoyed an amazing career and is still a regular at Manly, scoring three tries in nine games this year.

But he’s off-contract, and any clubs with some spare money ahead of the salary cap increase might just take a punt.

Johnathan Thurston

OK, we know it’s not happening. But we can dream!

An icon, a legend, to some, the greatest of all time.

He’s retiring at the end of the year, but oh how special it would be if someone could persuade him to have one more year.
