Patton likely to stay at Warrington

Dec Patton looks set to remain with Warrington in 2020, according to the club’s chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick.

The halfback or hooker has been linked with a move away from the Halliwell Jones Stadium since the conclusion of the 2019 Super League season.

Reports have suggested he could move across the M62 to Hull KR or, even more notably, to rugby union following speculation he had alerted the interest of Ospreys.

However, neither of those two outcomes seem likely after Fitzpatrick told League Express that Patton, who remains under contract in 2020, is set to stay put.

He said: “Declan will be with us next year. With Gareth Widdop coming in to join him and Blake Austin, we’ve got great competition there.”

Many felt as though the arrival of Widdop to form a potentially-devastating partnership with Austin could have spelled the end of Patton’s time with Warrington.

But instead, he now looks set to stay and fight it out with the England pair for a spot in the Wire team.
