Willie Poching has thrown his name into the hat to become the next permanent head coach of Hull KR.
The former Wakefield and Leeds star has been named as caretaker coach following the dismissal of Chris Chester, who Poching had been assistant to since last year.
When asked by The Guardian about his interest in the job, Poching said: “Definitely,”
“I’ve waited almost 10 years for a chance to come along. I’ve bided my time, I’ve done an apprenticeship over the last few years and I’ve come into this club to one day take charge of a team, and I still want that – I still harbour that ambition.”
However, the former Samoan international refused to comment about his future beyond Friday’s game against St Helens, a game in which he will take charge of the team.
“As far as I’m concerned my focus is only on Friday at the moment, and I’ve told the players that’s all I’m focused on.”
A number of names have been linked with the job since Chester’s departure, with former Leigh head coach Paul Rowley and recently departed England head coach Steve McNamara two of the favourites.
Rowley confirmed to TotalRL on Wednesday that he was flattered to be linked with the job.
