Combined XIII: Wigan v Salford

As always, Super League has thrown up some very tasty fixtures for us this week, and tonight’s match between Wigan and Salford is one of the juicier ties.

Salford and Wigan sit fourth and fifth respectively on the Super League ladder at this stage, while a victory tonight could end with one of the two at the top of the league if Hull FC fail to defeat Castleford.

Both teams have enjoyed successful seasons so far, although the context has been contrasting. Salford’s unbelievable hammering of St Helens was revelled in by the club’s supporters while victory last weekend over Widnes only went to prove that victory over Saints was by no means a fluke.

As for Wigan, an undefeated start in Super League has been satisfying if not pretty. They got stuck in and grafted against Catalans and Huddersfield and got their rewards, which is a very pleasing factor for Shaun Wane. Last weekend’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Brisbane wasn’t ideal, but it will be quickly forgotten with so much Rugby League to play.

With the two teams set to collide, we’ve picked a combined team based on the 19-man squads picked from.
