Powell rallies the troops ahead of Rhinos match

Castleford chief Daryl Powell has put faith in his squad to produce the goods against Leeds tonight.

The former Rhinos head coach has seen his team lose their previous three matches, including a thumping at the hands of Warrington last week.

Following that humiliation, Powell has laid down the gauntlet to his players ahead of tonight’s game.

“It’s going to be really important that we turn up individually and collectively,” he told the club’s official website. “And put in a performance that we can be proud of. It’s a local derby, the place is gonna be packed, and we’re at home, so it’s a key game for us, it’s crucial that we go after Leeds and we perform well.”

Powell has also admitted that his side’s defence must be made of sturdier stuff tonight.

“The players that are out there are good quality players and they need to do a great job tonight. The boys need to go out there and pull a really tidy game together that can challenge Leeds, obviously we’ve got to defend a bit better and we’ll look to do that tonight.”
