The RFL have announced the appointment of Chris Rawlings as Commercial Director. Rawlings, 45, joins the governing body with an impressive track record in delivering commercial success in the sports and entertainment industries, having previously worked with some of the world’s biggest brands.
He will have responsibility for increasing commercial revenue across Rugby League, working with current sponsors and establishing new partnerships and associations with the sport’s competitions and properties.
RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood said: “We are delighted to have Chris (right) on board as Commercial Director at such an exciting time in the sport’s history.
“The introduction of a new league structure will add to Rugby League’s appeal, especially to the commercial sector and Chris’s arrival will enable us to maximise the opportunities we have to grow our already impressive commercial portfolio.”
Chris Rawlings said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am thrilled to be involved in a sport which I have admired for a long time,” said Rawlings.
“Rugby League is a forward-thinking sport played by outstanding athletes and watched by a family audience, which together give it a compelling commercial appeal.
“The sport already has a very healthy stable of sponsors and partners and that provides a firm foundation to build upon.”
Rawlings will be based at the sport’s offices at MediaCityUK in Salford and commences his new role on Monday August 18.
