The Parliamentary Rugby League Group has today praised Super League clubs and the RFL over recent announcements affecting the sport.
In the space of four days, Super League has agreed a structure reshuffle from 2015 onwards and secured a lucrative headline sponsorship deal, with more set to be revealed.
Speaking in Westminster, Chairman of the Group, Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland said: “The recent announcements are welcome news for Rugby League fans.
“The Group is delighted that the structure of the UK’s elite Rugby League competition has been agreed and that a headline sponsor has been announced.
“On the back of the outstanding Rugby League World Cup last year, this is just the news that the sport needed in 2014.
“Well done to all for coming together; we look forward to hearing more in due course.”
The Parliamentary Group comprises 70 members of both Houses of Parliament and of all major political parties as well as individual and organisational Associate Members. It meets on a monthly basis to support Rugby League across Westminster and Whitehall.
