St Helens forward Alex Walmsley insists Saints’ goals haven’t changed throughout the season, and they have always been confident they can win the Grand Final.

Saints have put themselves in contention for an Old Trafford appearance with a recent run of seven victories, although that came to an end when they lost to rivals Wigan in their last outing.

However, having been given some time to recover last week, Walmsley believes the players have recovered and refocused on their objectives for the remainder of the season.

“Our goal is the same as it was at the start of the season, to make finals and win trophies,” he said.

“We’re in a healthy position now and we want to cement our top-four spot and then get to Old Trafford, which is the ultimate goal. We’ll take each game as it comes and everyone has to play for each other.

“The Wigan game was disappointing. We need to respond from it, get our defensive focus back and all work hard for each other. We know the Wigan game doesn’t end our season, and we just have to pick up and go again.”
