Salford set to swoop for Leigh star Ryan Brierley?

Rumours are circulating that suggest Salford are close to signing Leigh Centurions half-back Ryan Brierley, who has scored 11 tries in three Championship appearances this season.

The Red Devils’ first-choice stand-off Rangi Chase is no closer to returning from an ankle injury sustained in round one, and Tim Smith seems to be struggling to showcase his skills after signing from Wakefield in summer. Theo Fages, on the other hand, has been most impressive, but two losses on the bounce look to have forced Brian Noble’s hand.

Indeed, the Manchester Evening News reported that the former Great Britain coach is in talks with 22-year-old Brierley about joining the club he supports. The rumour gathered more momentum when Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash, sent a tweet, below, to Brierley, who was in a conversation involving our League Express account.

He said: “You must be a very good player. All speak highly of you. Time to have you watched.”

Koukash has since denied the rumour, but when quizzed by a fan on whether the Brierley deal was done, he simply said ‘no mate‘. Surely if he wasn’t interested he’d have denied all involvment at that point. If you ask me, there is a lot more to come on this.
