Smith departs Wakefield

Brian Smith has QUIT as Wakefield Wildcats head coach.

TotalRL understands Smith revealed his decision to chairman Michael Carter this morning after taking a training session with the team.

The famous Australian only took the job nine months ago following the departure of former coach James Webster, eventually guiding the Wildcats to safety through the Million Pound Game.

After an impressive recruitment drive, the Wildcats have only managed to win one of their five opening games of the Super League season and currently occupy tenth spot in the league.

Wakefield travel to St Helens on Friday. Stuart Dickens, who took charge following Webster’s departure last year, is expected to take charge.
