Steve Deakin to coach Whitehaven in 2015

Whitehaven have announced that former Catalan assistant coach Steve Deakin will coach the club again in 2015, replacing the outgoing Dave Woods.

Woods left the club following the end of the Championship season last week, and Deakin – who returned to England after only recently leaving the Dragons – will take up the reins at the club next season.

“The style will be altered slightly as you want the style to suit the players you’ve got,” he said.

“What we played at St Esteve suited those players, but it might not be the type of style they can play in England, so I need to watch plenty of video and do enough training sessions.

“I am sure we can come up with a style of football that will be very pleasing to watch and hopefully successful.”

Deakin had previously coached in England with the likes of Sheffield and Keighley.
