Super League to introduce two referee system this weekend

Super League is to see a major rule change introduced in its games THIS WEEKEND – as the two referee system so often used in Australia’s NRL will be rolled out in England’s top division for the very first time.

The three games on Thursday evening, Hull FC v Hull KR, Wakefield v Catalans and Widnes v Warrington, will all be the first games to use the structure, in a move announced by the RFL on Wednesday morning.

Even though the refereeing announcements had initially been made for those games, the decision has now been taken to use the hectic Easter period as the perfect window of opportunity to roll out the new model.

It is thought that the speed and quick decision making seen in the NRL with the two-referee system has caught the eye of Super League bosses, and will now be implemented in England after trials last year..
