Superb Salford bring Wakefield down to earth

Salford moved to within two points of Widnes Vikings following an outstanding 38-8 victory over Wakefield.

Despite heading into the match with seven wins in eight league outings, Chris Chester’s side was comfortably dispatched of by the Red Devils, who would now be above the sixth placed Wildcats if it wasn’t for their points deduction.

First-half tries through Niall Evalds and Ryan Lannon gave Salford a 10-4 lead at the break, with Anthony Tupou scoring for the Trinity.

However, Salford were irresistible in the second period, with Mark Flanagan, Lannon, George Griffin and Junior Sa’u all going over the line, with Ben Jones-Bishop’s try the only response fromWakefield.

Wakefield remain sixth, four points behind Catalans in fourth, who have a game in hand.
