Rugby League said its final goodbye to the great Roger Millward, as approximately one thousand people turned up for his funeral in Leeds.
Around 600 people gathered outside St Mary’s Church in Kippax, with another 400 in attendance inside. Meanwhile, over 1,000 people attended Hull KR’s KC Lightstream Stadium later in the day to pay their respects.
Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell ended his eulogy by saying “Sleep tight Roger, the greatest Robin ever.”
Millward is largely regarded as one of the greatest players in the game’s history following his incredible success with Hull KR. He scored 207 tries and made over 400 appearances for the Robins, with his contributions eventually being recognised with the most ultimate honour as he was inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2000, 17 years after being made an MBE.
