WHAT a way to celebrate St David’s Day!
Two new teams have been launched in Wales, both in the Caerphilly County Borough.
Ambitious South Wales Jets have formed an Under 14 girls side while, over at Caerphilly Leisure Centre, the Aber Valley Wolves Wheelchair outfit enjoyed their first training session.
More than 30 players – with more to come – convened for the Jets’ opening session, while eleven showed up for the Wolves.
Jets coaches Amberley Ruck and Ffion Jenkins are both Wales internationals and Jenkins said: “It was a really good day, and to have a turn-out of more than 30 girls was incredible.
“To see the growth of the game in Wales and to see these girls enjoying having the opportunity and pathway to pursue Rugby League is amazing.”
Paul Sargent (from Cardiff Blue Dragons) and Mathew Morris-Parker (formerly Torfaen Tigers) are Aber Valley’s head coaches.
Morris-Parker said: “It’s great to see so many people come here, new and old. It’s always great at these sort of events to bring the community together and introduce people to the sport as well.
“We’re an inclusive sport, anyone can play, disabled or non-disabled, and we’d love more people in Caerphilly to give it a go. If you love rugby and either you can’t play running rugby or want to try a new version, please come along.”
