Tykes off to a flier!

Yorkshire Under 17s swept to a comfortable victory over Cumbria when the BARLA Under 17s Tri-Series County Championship opened on Sunday at Stanningley.

Fullback Fletcher Paley of Hunslet Warriors turned in a man-of-the-match performance in the romp, scoring two tries and landing eight goals from as many attempts – including several from the touchline – and pulling off a try-saving tackle.

Dan Barcoe crossed twice in the early stages on his home ground, while Oliver Greenwood, Drew Judge-Clark and Nigel Dangare touched down to help establish a 30-6 interval lead.

Kai Gascoigne closed the scoring, while Cumbria were 24-0 adrift before Rob Salt raced over and Owen Hoyles added the extras.

Cumbria host Lancashire on Sunday 16 October, and the Series reaches a climax when Yorkshire visit Lancashire seven days later; both venues have yet to be confirmed.
