VIDEO: Hinchcliffe excited by fresh hooking challenge at Huddersfield

Ryan Hinchcliffe admits he’s excited by the challenge that lies ahead at new club Huddersfield – and says he’s looking forward to getting stuck into a somewhat new role of hooker.

The former Melbourne star, who has penned a three-year deal at Huddersfield from 2016 onwards, has been handed the number nine shirt by coach Paul Anderson, hinting at a permanent role at hooker despite spending the bulk of his career playing loose-forward in the NRL.

But Hinchcliffe says that he’s expecting to be a more permanent hooker in Super League, and says that filling in for Cameron Smith whilst the Melbourne star was playing State of Origin will help ready him for the new challenge.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve played predominantly 13 over the last few years at Melbourne but I’ve played hooker when Cameron Smith has been playing Origin and I’ve trained there a fair bit, so I’m comfortable in that position,” he said.

“I think that’s the role I’ll be filling over here – although I might spend a bit of time at 13 whilst I’m here.”
