Wane not interested in NRL purchases

Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has said that the NRL is not a competition he’s looking to recruit from at this moment in time.

The Warriors did re-sign Sam Tomkins for 2016 from the New Zealand Warriors recently, but the Wigan boss has said that after that deal was struck, there are no other NRL players on his radar.

In fact, Wane has reiterated his stance on promoting youth at Wigan, saying that he’s keen to keep handing out debuts to promising youngsters.

‘‘I watch the games and like the NRL but am not looking for players to come in from there,’’ Wane said at his weekly press conference.

‘‘I like to give debuts and chances to local lads and Ian Lenagan is with me all the way on this.

‘‘We have a good culture at Wigan and this is why players want to come back here.’’
