Wigan and Saints name derby squads

Wigan coach Shaun Wane has named a very strong squad to face St Helens in the club’s penultimate pre-season friendly this Sunday.

Fresh from the announcement he would move to Sydney Roosters in 2016, winger Joe Burgess is included, whilst there is a healthy sprinkling of youth with the likes of George Williams and Ryan Sutton involved.

The big omission is captain Sean O’Loughlin – who was expected to be in the running to feature in the game. He missed the club’s defeat to Leigh Centurions last weekend after the birth of his child, however, he was believed to be nursing a slight injury.

The Warriors have just one more friendly planned before their season opener at Widnes on 5 February – when they face Workington Town away the weekend before the big kick-off.

Wigan squad to face St Helens:
Bateman, Bowen, Burgess, Charnley, Clubb, Crosby, C Farrell, L Farrell, Gelling, Greenwood, Hampshire, Manfredi, McIlorum, Patrick, Smith, Sutton, J Tomkins, L Tomkins, Williams.

Meanwhile, Luke Walsh misses out on selection for the Saints as he continues his personal recovery from a horrific leg injury suffered last year whilst playing for the Saints.
