Wigan Warriors star George Williams signs new deal

Wigan Warriors teen sensation George Williams has signed a new long-term contract with the club, tying himself down for the next four years as Wigan continue to plan heavily for the future.

19 year old Williams is widely regarded as one on the hottest properties in the game. The highly rated Half Back joined the Club’s Scholarship system four years ago and was fast tracked into the First Team setup, making a try-scoring debut in a Challenge Cup victory over Leigh in 2013 and impressing in 10 consecutive First Team games this season.

Wigan Head Coach Shaun Wane commented: “I am really pleased that George has decided to sign a long term deal with his hometown club. He is a very talented young player who shows great desire to be the best. Make no mistake, we are the envy of many Super League clubs in getting George’s signature. He fits perfectly into the Wigan culture with his behaviour on and off the field and I look forward to in sharing much success with George over the years to come”.

Williams said of the deal: “I am delighted to commit my future to Wigan. I thoroughly enjoy the environment here and intend to repay the Coaches trust in me by working hard, continuing to improve and play my role in helping this team to achieve great things. It is a really exciting time for the Club; we have great facilities, great fans, a great coaching team and a great group of players who want to create a new period of success for this great Club”.

Rugby General Manager Kris Radlinski added: “With some players you know within minutes of seeing them that they have the necessary qualities to succeed. George has maturity and game sense beyond his years. He is an important part of the Club’s future and we can now begin to recruit around George knowing that he will be with us for a long time. We are all thrilled as he is so well liked. This is a massive coup for the Club.”
