Wolves lead chase for Broncos star

Warrington Wolves are leading the chase for the highly-rated England Knights prop Rob Butler.

The London Broncos star has attracted interest from a number of Super League clubs, but the Wolves are understood to be the frontrunners to land his signature.

Butler, 22, made his Super League debut last season as part of the Broncos side that surprised everyone by almost avoiding relegation.

He played 24 times for Danny Ward’s side and his performances were recognised by his inclusion in the Knights side, earning international honours for the first time in their victory over Jamaica.

Yet another London-based, born and raised talent, he is the only Championship player currently in the England setup after having been selected in Shaun Wane’s initial England Knights group.

It will be the second time Warrington have snared a played from the Broncos in recent years, having signed Matt Davis from the capital club two years ago. Current Wire assistant Andrew Henderson was the London coach for several years before joining the Wolves.

Butler had spells in League 1 with London Skolars and Coventry Bears before establishing himself in the Broncos’ side.

He made his debut for the Broncos in 2018 and has enjoyed a near meteoric rise since, playing in Super League and on the international stage.

Now, he looks set to join one of the sport’s biggest clubs, and in doing so, arrive at the same time as Rugby League superstar Greg Inglis.
