Red Devils make a move for Addy

Salford Red Devils are in pursuit of Leigh star Danny Addy.

League Express understands last year’s Grand Finalists are chasing a deal for the Scotland international ahead of next season

Addy dropped out of Super League to join the Centurions at the start of the year and quickly established himself as one of the competition’s form players with a string of outstanding performances as Leigh went unbeaten at the start of the season.

Addy, 29, started his career with Bradford, where he spent seven seasons and made over 150 appearances.

He subsequently joined Hull Kingston Rovers, who he helped to promotion in 2017 before suffering an ACL injury that kept him sidelined during their return to Super League. He returned last year and played 17 times before joining the promotion-chasing Centurions.

But Ian Watson is hoping to ensure he’s back in Super League next season, with Salford making moves in the market early.

Last week they confirmed Ollie Roberts’ loan deal had been extended until the end of the 2021 season while Morgan Escaré is set to arrive as a replacement for Niall Evalds.

There is a growing expectation that Castleford are set to make a play to secure Evalds on a deal for the rest of the season.

Evalds has already agreed to join the Tigers for 2021 but with Cas losing their first-choice fullback in Jordan Rankin, who is being linked with a move to Parramatta, they are in need of someone to fill the position for the rest of the year.

With French fullback Escaré joining the club, Salford could be tempted into selling Evalds, cashing in on a player already leaving for free months later.
