WWE star The Rock calls Newcastle Knights’ Alex McKinnon

There was a heartwarming story emerging from the NRL this week, surrounding seriously injured Newcastle Knights star Alex McKinnon. The 22-year-old, who landed on his head during a tackle in the Knights’ fixture against Melbourne Storm earlier this year, is currently recovering from the horrific injuries suffered that day.

But Beau Ryan – the recently retired Cronulla Sharks winger who appears on The Footy Show – brought in the help of a friend recently to try and lift McKinnon’s spirits. Ryan is close friends with WWE wrestler The Rock – real name Dwayne Johnson – and asked the American if he could ring McKinnon to let him know he is aware of his story.

And like a true gentleman, The Rock agreed – and refused to let Australian TV turn the cameras off to prove it was a legitimate stunt. The heartwarming video is below.
