The Rugby Football League have confirmed that York City Knights’ game against Doncaster on Sunday has been postponed.
The game, which was due to be played at Bootham Crescent, has been called off after it emerged the Knights were embroiled in a battle over the usage of the pitch, which is shared with York City Football Club.
Local reports have said the future of the club is under threat, and a statement from the RFL simply confirmed the postponement.
They said: “The Kingstone Press League 1 Super 8s Round 1 fixture between York City Knights v Doncaster RLFC this Sunday July 24 (3.30pm) has been postponed.
“Both clubs have agreed to postpone the fixture and information regarding the rearranged game will be provided as soon as is possible.”
In a further statement issued to TotalRL however, an RFL Spokesperson said: “As with any club in difficulty, the RFL will work closely with York City Knights to assist them with the issues they are currently facing. We have spoken to the club today and will continue to work closely with them over the coming days as they speak with all stakeholders involved in an attempt to work through the situation.”
