ZACH ECKERSLEY has signed a new four-year deal with the Wigan Warriors following a breakthrough year in the Cherry and White.
The former Waterhead ARLFC amateur has featured 16 times in accomplished performances at centre, on the wing and at full-back – scoring seven tries, including the opening try in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.
Eckersley, who turns 21 in November, made his debut for Wigan at Craven Park against Hull KR in 2022.
He didn’t play a first team game in 2023, but spent time on loan at Widnes Vikings where he was highly rated by the Vikings then boss John Kear after scoring eight tries in five games. Eckersley later returned to captain the Warriors to a Reserves Grand Final win over St Helens.
On the deal, Eckersley said: “I’m really proud to be able to sign with the club for a further four years, I’m really happy at Wigan and I get to work every day with an amazing group of lads.
“I’ve been given some fantastic opportunities already since moving up to the first-team squad, opportunities that have come about from working as hard as I can and that’s what I need to continue to do.”
Head Coach Matt Peet said: “This is great news for the club. Zach has worked hard to develop through the pathway, and he is a fine young man with great ability on the field.
“He has already shown how talented he is and we look forward to supporting him through the next four years. I know Zach’s family are really proud of him and so are we.”
