What a result!
Championship Honour Selections:
Brett Phillips - Player of the Week
Brett Phillips, Kris Coward and James Duerden in the Team of the Week
Finally, but thoroughly deserved - Town - Performance of the Week!
Good knowledge Scott, good to know he is still playing some form of Rugby.
Just shows, don't trust Wickipedia, it says that Scott, Jack Spencer and Dean McGilvray went over to France in October 2013.
"BarrowTransfers Out 2013: Kurt Haggerty (On Loan to Leigh Centurions), Matthew Haggarty (Dewsbury Rams), Lee Haney (Workington Town), James Dandy (Rochdale Hornets), Adam Clay (North Wales Crusaders), Sean Casey (Rochdale Hornets), Brad Brennan (Batley Bulldogs), Scott Kaighan (France), Dean McGilvray (France), Ruari McGoff (Workington Town), Jack Spencer (France), Liam Finch (Released), Mike Whitehead (Released)."
Think you might be wrong there supporter, unless Australia is an undiscovered suburb of Huddersfield. Joel's dad was former Huddersfield and GB star Anthony Farrell. He has the potential to be as good too. Looking forward to the game on sunday - could go either way. Take care on the journey down lads.
Ops! Just shows I shouldn't trust other sites: your full list of transfers in this season read:
Transfers In: Wayne Godwin (Salford Red Devils), Tom Hemingway (Batley Bulldogs), Anthony Thackeray (Halifax RL), Matthew Haggarty (Barrow Raiders), Jobe Murphy (Bradford Bulls), Louis Sherriff (Hull Kingston Rovers), Sean Robinson (Oxford RL), Joel Farrell (Australia), Connor Nolan (Bradford Bulls), Shane Grady (London Broncos), Jordan Grayston (Mackay Cutters), Jason Maranka (Unattached), Lucas Walshaw (On Loan from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats), Ewan Dowes (Wigton RU).
Let me know if any of the others are wrong and I will get them corrected when I inform the site of the Farrell mistake.
Don't assume for one moment that we at Town are all in favour of the DR system, but when players don't want to sign because of the travelling, local young talent follow their Super League dreams or are content to enjoy the benefits of BARLA rather than take the plunge with the semi pro game - what else can you do in the short-term. Hence my real excitement and support for the forth coming major review of rugby league in West Cumbria and a real chance through that study to securely re-establish the game in Cumbria for the future.
At one point this week, I reckon we had only 16 players available without using the DR system. Looking forward - as I always do - to coming down to Dewsbury on Sunday, hope for a fine day, a level pitch and a good close game with a narrow victory for Town.
Judging by the amount of money that is heading rugby league's way in the new Sky contract announced today, I think it just got more imperative that we are in that top 24 for the 2015 season.
One rugby league journalist has already tweeted a figure of £200 million over 5 years from 2017 - 2021 and the bulk of that will be going to the top 24. The gap, financially, will now be between the top 24 and the rest with a smaller gap between the two 12's.
Possible bad news for Premier Sports followers of Championship Rugby according to Martyn Sadler on Twitter......
Martyn Sadler @MartynSadler
I hear that @PremierSportsTV have pulled out of their @RLChampionships coverage in 2014. An unfortunate effect of the new Sky deal.
Confirmed by Premier Sports on twitter in a response to Martyn
@MartynSadler yes real shame we won't be covering @RLChampionships this year or into future now. Focus on NRL.
