David Armstrong explains move to Leigh Leopards and makes admission on NRL future

DAVID ARMSTRONG admits that the cold weather is difficult to get used to in the UK, but that he knew what he signed up for when making the move from the NRL.

Armstrong heads up a hefty turnover at the Leigh Sports Village for the third running, with 12 new recruits joining the Leigh Leopards as head coach Adrian Lam attempts to reach the top four once more in 2025.

For the 23-year-old, who played five games for the Newcastle Knights during the 2024 NRL season, he is finding himself having to adapt to the new climate halfway across the world.

“It’s a lot different to what I’m used to, it’s a lot colder over here but it is what it is. I knew what I signed up for,” Armstrong told League Express.

“The weather is the toughest thing to adapt to, waking up and going outside and sometimes you can’t even feel your fingers.

“It’s hard to do drills sometimes when it’s like that but it’s something I am getting used to.”

So why did Armstrong make the move to Leigh?

“It was the chance to play first grade week in, week out. Back home I was second-string and waiting for my opportunity through injury or whatever the case was.

“I had not looked at moving to Super League before, it all happened in the blink of an eye. It had never crossed my mind before and it happened like that.

“I still have ambitions to go back to the NRL, my time there is not done yet.

“I would like to go back one day, play more games and establish myself in that competition.”
