Sheffield Eagles strengthened their grip on third place in the Kingstone Press Championship with a convincing 12-40 victory over Batley Bulldogs at Fox’s Biscuits Stadium tonight, coming from 12-0 down in the early stages to run out convincing winners in the second half.
The Bulldogs took an early lead with tries by Lee Mitchell and Shaun Ainscough, with Scott Leatherbarrow converting the second try and adding a penalty.
The Eagles didn’t get onto the scoresheet until the 35th minute, when try-machine Menzie Yere got over for his first, followed by a second on the stroke of half-time, with Kyle Briggs converting the second.
The Eagles turned round to play down the slope in the second half, and they proved to be virtually unstoppable, adding tries by Sam Smeaton, John Davies, Yere for his third, Quentin Laulu-Togagae and Misi Taulapapa, with adding four more conversions and Dominic Brambani converting the final try.
