You’d still need to relay the terracing. I get your logic but those’d boxes are 25 years old. I doubt they would survive the move and even if they did they are still a temporary structure.

Its something the old BOD would have looked at but I think Ellis’s has bigger plans.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be the same units, but just figured it was a better use of the limited depth of space to pile on top of each other rather than trying to get any sort of terracing built there. Then gives free scope for something ‘proper’ behind the sticks, then.

  2. Personally I’d think it’s worth exploring shifting the Benidorm flats on to the West side, using the space to spread out across the length rather than being necessarily quite so high as they are currently. Wouldn’t need to take up anywhere near as much space as a stand at that side and could give scope for an improved TV gantry, TV studio and of course extra corporate space.

That would then leave the southerly end to build a decent sized covered terrace or seats which would arguably be a bigger capacity than the current Western Terrace.

Shes been along to a few matches here and there and broadly enjoyed it, but once you add in tiredness it becomes challenging and not worth it. It then gets to the point that my wife can't then come along and with work commitments of friends it means I either go alone or watch on TV with a beer.

But, my view on stuff like this is that we can't judge too much on individual preferences. It is a numbers game and Families with kids <7 may be a niche that we can live without, plenty other sports an forms of entertainment do so.

It'll be interesting to see whether all games on TV has an impact, but early signs (season ticket sale thread and World Club Challenge thread) suggests that attending games will still be attractive. Whether walk-ups will be affected we'll see.

Tbf I think that shows there’s absolutely a market for an afternoon game, but make it the exception that people with younger families make long term plans to attend rather than it necessarily being the norm purely because of archaic licensing laws.

I know this will be controversial and isn’t necessarily something I buy in to in RL even though it’s been successful in The Hundred, but there may be a place for early evening weekday kick offs during the school holidays (possibly one for the Challenge Cup to avoid inconveniencing season ticket holders).

Quite simply mate, her routine sees her in bed between 8 and 9, and whilst we are fine to relax that when no school, she is generally knackered by then. A Friday evening match basically means it just stops becoming enjoyable from about 8.30! Although some Wire matches have been depressing by that time in the last 2 years anyway! 😆

A year of watching on Sky to pique her interest and then fully bought in for 2025 👍

I think nothing will please everyone, it's all personal preference.

I like afternoon games because I can take my 7 year old with me, but 8pm kick offs on any night exclude young kids, and people who can't or won't get babysitters.

But, that's my challenge, it's a numbers game, they won't make everyone happy and if that means I become a tv fan, so be it.

You’ll know I’m saying this from the right place Dave, but why wouldn’t you take your 7 year old on a Friday night with no school the next day?

Just trying to get my head around this.

Sky Sports subscribers can watch all games each week?

Super League + subscribers can watch all but the 2 main Sky pick games each week?

Or do I misunderstand the offer for current sky subscribers?

It looks like the Super League + subscription will sit between £10.99 and £17.99 per month.

It’s not very clear from that article but I think what its saying is for the first 15 rounds all 6 games will be on actual Sky channels but this will change when Skys Streaming service is up and running.

Super League + will be streaming all 6 games from the start of the season?

    I think.

Anyway taking a cut in fee from Sky but getting them to pay for the broadcast cost whilst the RFL can sell those games elsewhere might actually have been a stroke of genius

Let's, for example, say a Thursday night and one game on a Friday night. If there are other games on the same night, that game will be available on Super League+. If you are a Sky Sports subscriber, you are also able to watch that game via a Sky Sports platform.

Taken from the Examiner article. So it looks to me as though only non-Sky subscribers need to actually sign up to Super League+

It doesn't say what role NOW TV plays in this as well.

They just piggyback on Sky so you would just get the two Sky games once the streaming kicks in unless you subscribed to Super League+

For the first however many rounds when they are split between the various ‘proper’ Sky channels, they will be available on Now TV.

Seats at the front are still for sale and some sold so it isn't that. There seems to be a lot sold in the North-East section of the the North stand.

That’s where the community club mascots sit etc so will likely be held off while they get final numbers etc. So might result in an odd few coming available but likewise might mean they aren’t included in the current sales.

Genuinely have never been patter down going into a rugby event of either code (can't recall football either)

Matt - would your describe yourself as having an 'honest' face?

They did it for everybody in the away end. Not sure if it was the case last season though.

Utterly ridiculous behaviour.....I've always had reasonably good experiences at HJ

Probably best for those families to sneak the food/drink inside coat pockets instead of bags (which we do)

The worst time I had at HJ was that COVID England fixture ....the 4000 crowd one Travelled nearly 3 hours...thought I'd get there towards start of England Vs Wales women....plenty of time for beer and food ....they weren't serving anything !!....the stewards would not let me out either to return....

Tried exactly that at the HJ with a strategically placed chop suey roll in my inside coat pocket from Mike & Martha’s. Got patted down at the turnstiles and told I wasn’t taking it inside. Same thing happened to my mate as he was going through so we were both left scoffing them outside the turnstiles, which you can imagine absolutely nobody in the queue took the pee out of!

Talking of the North stand/ concourse someone has just bought  out a significant part of the whole of N2.

Is it Penrith or are we attracting ticket speculators ?

At this rate the remaining corners usually closed for soccer are going to have to be opened........

If it is the area at the front then I would imagine there will be a sponsors banner. If it is elsewhere then there’s a reasonable shout that it could be a block travel booking.

Agreed, in the bowl it's a superb ground, with an outstanding atmosphere with a large crowd.

It isn't unique in being terrible in the concourse though.

I went to Wigan v Catalans a couple of years ago and the East Stand concourse is immeasurably better than the North, with a couple of varieties of bars and food outlets, not too dissimilar to the HJ.

North concourse is a nightmare for football (hence the capacity reduction), although the smart ones amongst us know to head downstairs to the Marquee at half time for a seat and a proper pint!

Approaching 20k now sold looking at the Ticketmaster website .

The tryline corners not yet opened but the visitors end  ( normally limited to 4.8k ) is the only stand with plenty of space left.

And I doubt that will be ' neutral ' come the kick off !

It’s generally only limited to 4,800 for football because licensing laws mean you can’t take beer to your seats so the concourses get very congested. With no such laws in RL, there’s half a chance they might get away with applying for a single game exemption from the SAG (which is the only way of getting to 25,000 capacity tbf)

So you register, get a free ticket with a QR code and all issued tickets are counted - that’s why crowd is given high.

Totally understand why the numbers are inflated btw

Except they aren’t free, and the FA are incredibly hot on WSL announced crowds being ‘actual’ crowds, so the sales figures are invariably much higher than the announced figure once non attending season tickets and the like are included.

    You’re wrong.

The crowds given were correct, legal requirement.

What was total bull was that half of those were freebies, hence the inevitable bankruptcy.

Not saying you’re right or wrong either way in Wakey’s particular case, but what I can tell you is there is absolutely zero legal requirement in terms of ‘announced’ attendances. Clubs can literally announce the crowd as whatever you like (and they do).

The actual, physical attendance is of course recorded as part of safety officer reports for each match (and submitted to local area SAGs and RLGSOA) but you would need to submit a freedom of information request to your local council.

Wouldn't surprise me if that got shelved, and Ellis looks at a more ambitious plan for the South end of the ground. It is far easier to develop than the West or North terrace, it has a large footprint, easily accessible, few if any planning issues. Depends on timescales, a return to SL, and the increase in demand should we become competitive.

Wonder if there’s a school of thought in building a new terrace at the south end (nominally the away end as a result, I expect) and taking advantage of the reduced space on the western side and re-creating the Benidorm end along that side with a naturally increased number of hospitality boxes, maybe a ground floor pitch-length bar facility or something those lines. All planning dependent, of course.

Or they could always build a snooker club along that side 😊
