  1. I would like to take this opportunity from both Moorends-Thorne Marauders A.R.L.F.C. and Dearne Valley Bulldogs A.R.L.F.C. to thank 16-year-old Megan Mills of the Hull referee’s society for taking control of her first open-age men’s game (Friday 3/May/2024.)

Megan should and no doubt will go far in the middle with the whistle, she was pitch perfect and controlled every aspect of the game with authority and vision, as the saying goes, you know when the referee has had a good game, you don’t notice them, this was the case with Megan throughout the game.

Well, done Megan from all at the Marauders and Bulldogs.

  2. Talking to the number 22s dad and asked how he had got on, he said that the audio of his lad talking wasn't clear but never sounded anything  like "Spastic" but the panel said "It sounds like" not "You said spastic" so he was advised to take the minimum penalty, 6 games and £500. I suppose this is another reason why a union is required, to fight such findings, legally the cost is far to much individually for a player to fight a case, having a union rep there could see him/her/none binary make a decision to fight a case.

I have a bit of knowledge of this as my cousin was the ref. A correction for you - it was Roberts and only Roberts who claimed he had said cabbage rather than the word in question. He later saw sense and admitted it, apologised and pled guilty last night. You carry on blaming the officials though if it suits your narrative.

It was not my narrative, I was told by the lad himself Saturday morning at a under 15s game, at the time he was waiting for what the club wanted to do about it, maybe the club advised him to plead guilty.

Hopefully the refs mic picks everything up, it's ridiculous that a player loses pay over such a trivial matter.  If he had reacted to the high shot with a punch he would be facing a much lesser charge.  They're not playing tiddlywinks.  The RL media can't wait to Make headlines out of anything negative once again on planet Fev.

Fingers crossed, the lad said if he's found guilty he'd have got less for punching the guy

I'm sure that NCL coaches will do right by their regular squads and many of them have already taken that point.  Current strong squads number wise may well choose not to use this option anyway.  For some who have occasionally struggled to put 17 on the teamsheet this initiative will be very welcome. Unlike in the Pro game the Community Coach will have sole control of team selection. In the first instance dual registered players will be required to offer themselves to the club from which they signed and the hope is that at least a few  will decide to stay.

NCL management have worked through the details with the RFL , all clubs were made aware of the thinking behind it before voting and the actual Appendix to the NCL competition rules will be websited for all to have a look at  shortly.

I believe the details are to be shared  and will be followed throughout the whole game.

It's taken longer than what I expected for this to happen,

To know the full story and to get a feel of this case.

    ·       Firstly, go onto you tube and watch the highlights of the game, take note that during the highlights the player (number 22) never once gets involved verbally or physically around the play the ball throughout the game

    ·       The incident happens in the last 5 minutes or so, when the number 22 takes the ball up just in front of Thatto Heaths goals, whilst doing so number 22 takes another tackle around the head (He is 6 foot 4)

    ·       Number 22 gets to his feet, never gets involved physically and is awarded a penalty, while on his feet he says to his attacker “Fukcing Cabbage”

    ·       The referee then red cards the number 22 for insinuating his attacker was a Spastic.

    ·       Firstly, in the text “Fukcing Cabbage” was said is in line with the urban dictionary translation  “Fukcing Idiot”

    ·       Secondly it was the referee and only the referee who has interpreted “Fukcing Cabbage” into “Fukcing Spastic” this was pointed out to the referee by the Featherstone captain when asked the reason the number 22 was sent off.

    ·       The referee has previous in such actions, he was part and parcel in a player getting a 6-match ban whilst being the 4th official, on that occasion two players had been sin binned and the guilty player called the other player “A Welsh see u next Tuesday”

The number number 22 is not a trialist he has signed for Featherstone even after being offered a far better deal in a brown envelop from a local union side.

If he's found guilty of this he absolutely deserves 6 games. Play the game hard but there's no need for personal abuse. Disappointing that it's a trialist that the club has given a chance to and this is what he, allegedly, repays the club by doing. If the referee has heard it and sent him off, I can't see anything other than a guilty verdict.

    Hi

Do you know the full story of this case, if not I will tell you.

Not sure about your feelings but this is probably going to be the second occasion that food will be taken off the kitchen table because an official has thin skin.

By the way, number the number 22 is not a trialist he has signed for Featherstone even after being offered a far better deal in a brown envelop from a local union side.

Strange that because as a junior he was nothing special

Beg to differ according to everything I've read, he was a loss to rugby league at the time, would he cut it back in league, probably yes but has he been left behind to much to become a major star, who knows and I can't see you finding out.

If they do, watch out for people on this forum complaining that it's slowing the game down and ruining it. #CantWin

IMO it would spoil it, the attractions of wheelchair rugby league from what I've been reading is it's pace and brutality, get a video ref involved and you kill both, leave it as it is and live and die by the person with the whistle.

Sent an email to Pennine League over a week ago regarding if anything is happening this year as the season starts in September no reply yet and no information on website no wonder we are where we are.

I'll see what I can find out for you - Lack of promotion is a major region the Pennine league fail down on, when Roger Fagge  was working at BARLA the press was bombarded and clubs knew what was happening, getting rid of him was a major own goal

    Saturday 25th June
Sheffield Hawks 58 Sheffield Forgers 12
    Yorkshire Div 7A
    H/T 36-0

Even though this was officially Hawks' home game, this was played at Mosborough MW, Forgers' home venue. It was in fact the first time Hawks have played all season, I think that's down to venue availability. With that in mind I expected a closer game, I was wrong. The difference in class was massive. Six first half tries were unanswered before Forgers did manage to score at 42-0. Hawks only managed four more in the second half. Mosborough MW is the home of Mosborough RU in the winter months but was best avoided today as a brats party was in full swing in the bar area.

From champions of div 5 to div 7A, I wonder what happened to the 4 players they signed from the pro game in the week leading to to play us last season.

  12. I was at a regimental reunion at 204 Scottish Battery, Kingston Park, Newcastle, every year I normally take in a game in the Newcastle area, however this year all the Newcastle teams had away games so it cost me a fortune going shopping with the Mrs.

My own team took another battering 68 v 10 away at Kippax & Swillington Miners, that is now 6 games without a win and the injuries keep mounting.

Drastic times call for drastic measures, my first job when arriving back was to attend a meeting that overwhelmingly voted to part company with the coach and appoint a new one.

Saltash Essayons 38 Teignbridge Trojans 28

Not since Hill Hoists appeared in Hammersmith has a moniker being meaningless to me without looking it up, but Essayon is French for let us try. It is a military expression and is more let us try where others have failed and succeed.

Saltash is across the Tamar from Plymouth and the team may well have military connections.

The people involved in South West RL deserve medals for keeping going and hopefully the new Cornwall team will give a boost to playing numbers with only four teams in the league this year, three in Devon and Saltash.

Not just distance and cost have kept me away from visits but more the fact that matches have needed to be  9 or 11 a side to avoid being cancelled

No such problem today with 16 v 15 although injuries made it hard and some played longer than they would have preferred.

Venue was Saltash RU, no more than a recreation ground with wooden changing room s and bar on one side.

This was the first game of the season and for several players the first game of RL hence some kicking on the second or third tackle. There were some good players mixed in and a lot of enthusiasm with plenty of good and tough tackles

Score was 38 26 in my mind but 38 28 on scoreboard. With scores level on one version late on, thankfully late tries means this did not matter

Queens used to use the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry motto, Cede Nullis (Yield to none)

  14. Last weekend we could only manage 13 players and we lost one of those in the first set with an ankle injury, this was the first weekend since we turned to summer we couldn't put 20 players on the team sheet, apart from 3 working and 1 at a wedding the rest of the faithful regular squad are injured or sick.

I thought it all looked great and came across fantastic. I do think 51k seemed right. Tottenham just looks made for London internationals and it's such a pity the Ashes series was cancelled.

What was again noticeable was the empty corporate level. It's a quite obvious symptom of the games failings. The sport just fails to engage with this crucial market, costing it an awful lot of money in terms of revenue and sponsorship.

Are the corporate levels under contracts like Wembley was/is?

Good post, and as I said, I really do hope the Eagles carry on rebuilding, I always had a bit of a soft spot for them, Ironically, being a Huddersfield fan, as well as a Wednesday fan and spending many Saturday afternoons, and midweek nights in the city.

But be careful about building crowds up etc, Huddersfield have built their crowds up from a few hundred to over 5,000 and still get hammered for, I suspect Sheffield will be afforded more grace though, as every other club is.

As for the stadium, spot on, big, empty stadiums do nothing for sport, I will use Berlin's 2 major football clubs, Hertha and Union, Union is my team but I have nothing against Hertha at all, Hertha play in the 74,000 seat Olympiastadion, in front of 30,000-40,000, decent crowds, but totally lost in the truly magnificent, but vast stadium, complete with running track and big open Olympic gate end.

Union, meanwhile play in a magnificent, compact, 22,000 stadium with 3 sides made up of terracing close to the pitch, that close that one can't even see the touchline!, the atmosphere is absolutely rocking, for 90 minutes plus another 20 minutes after the game has ended before the crowds disperse into the forest.

I look at that and I see both Huddersfield, and Sheffield in the DVS as Hertha, the crowds and atmosphere's aren't that bad but are just lost in big stadiums, yet the smaller, compact ground, like, say, Castleford or Hull KR will always get praised regardless of how many people are in it.

Doncaster IMO suffer from playing in a 15,000 goldfish bowl, it's a shame they couldn't develop the old Tattersfield ground with a 5 or 6 thousand ground with the potential to expand it if required.
