Thur 22nd Feb: SL: Hull KR v Leeds Rhinos KO 8pm (Sky)
MZH replied to John Drake's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
That is probably that tbh. Can't see a way back for Leeds. -
Yeah, I'm not sure if he is injured or if other players were just preferred over him, but I expected him to be in the 21 at least. He came over last year and played as a trialist for the reserves. He played a game and a half and then got injured and didn't play again last year but he made a big impression in his cameo and we gave him a one year deal. From what I've seen he's not the biggest for a prop but he's one of those guys who throws himself into every collision and does everything whole heartedly. Hopefully he gets a chance somewhere down the line.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to bring this up, but with the new guidelines is it maybe time to explore a change to the card system? The course of a game can be changed massively by a red card being shown. This wasn't such a big deal when reds were shown once in a blue moon, but if we are going to be getting a few people sent off every week that's potentially a lot of one sided games because of it. Of course people will say its up to players to keep the tackles down, and that's true. But what if you've paid good money to watch your team and they are down to 12 after 10 minutes? Or if you are a casual viewer who decides to watch a game and it's over as a contest after 20 minutes? We are in the entertainment business afterall, and we have more exposure this year than perhaps ever before. Imo we should leave the yellow card as it is, and reserve the red cards for the more thuggish, premeditated stuff. But also introduce a third card for those more marginal tackles, where the guilty player can't take further part in the game, but where it allows the 18th man to be activated in his place. They would still be subjected to the same disciplinary action etc. But it means less games being decided by a mistimed challenge or an over zealous referee decision.

Damel Diakhate could well get a game for Hull this week with Pele, Ese'ese and Sao all banned.
-
I haven't seen the minutes, but it must have been downgraded?
-
I'd imagine that was taken into account. And whilst Pele was very reckless and overly aggressive the actual contact in his case was very minimal. Had he caught Minchella flush on the jaw I expect it would have been a lot more.
-
I know this is a little bit tongue in cheek but I'm actually looking forward to seeing a few of the youngsters get a go on Friday. Its a great chance for them to make a case for regular selection.
-
From a Hull POV, it's pretty much what I was expecting. My only complaint really is that Parcell only gets 1 match and Sao gets 3. Sao shouldn't have lashed out the way he did, but Purcell was the instigator and that feels disproportionate to me.

I wasn't watching the game but I saw a few comments about how ridiculous the Watts red card was. Just watched it. Its slightly on the harsh side I would say, but not nearly as controversial as I was expecting it to be. Yes the attacker was stooping/slipping into contact, but Watts has still dropped his shoulder and hit with force. I don't think he meant to hit him in the head, but he's not in control.

A better team than Rovers would have put 50 past us no problem. I only hope that's our rock bottom. If we've got a worse performance in us then I'm afraid to watch it. -

Agree. Even if we keep 13 on the field its hard to imagine we would have scored many points. -

It's hard to see how we can be any worse. -

What's Parcell doing that for? The game is won. Cheap. -

At least we've showed a bit of heart in the second half, but still very poor. -

Some good goal line defence there and then let ourselves down by just assuming they would kick. -

Ashworth has been our best player by a mile. Although the bar is very low. -

You couldn't make this many unforced errors if you tried. Woeful. -

Yeah I agree. That's why I said it was beside the point whether he actually connected or not. -

I don't object to the red, it was stupid and dangerous. Whether he connects or not is kind of beside the point. But he mostly hit fresh air. -

It's very reckless from Pele, but I don't think there's contact with the head there. -

Get Hoy on, get Brown at 9 and Houghton at 13. At least it might just give us a little bit of direction. I cant fond a single good thing to say about that first half performance except that it's only 14 and not 30.
