Cullen is a nice guy. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the game and has played and coached at a high level.

This might sound patronising but is not intended as such. He sometimes speaks with the rhythm and vocabulary of someone who didn't have to be particularly articulate during his school or playing days, and therefore learnt public speaking later in life. This means he sometimes sounds a bit verbose and deliberate in his speech (see also, to some extent Phil Clarke and Alan Hunte). This always seem to wind people up when he was on Sky so am surprised to see people being so complimentary now.

In any case, he was a decent coach for Warrington and gave everything to the club on and off the field. It was right that we moved on but also sad that it didn't fully work out.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that he could hardly string a sentence together when he was still playing but had taken some sort of media course, I used to laugh when I heard him, Noble or whoever saying alluded to. Everybody on the Sky commentary team was alluding to something and I presumed they’d all been on the same course.

As Preposterous says, maybe the design of the new West Stand will change with the advent of the new terraced grill bar at the South end of the Stadium but Matt Ellis will definitely build a new West Stand

If that’s what is planned for the south end, then on the west side it just needs fit for purpose terracing with good viewing lines & preferably with a lid on. Job done!

Which ever way you look at things regarding the constant financial support they get from the local authority. At least on the pitch they seem to be doing things right. I also like their style of rugby and enjoy watching their games.

So the club is unsustainable but if they play attractive rugby it’s ok? Fair enough!

  4. Salford & Rowley getting plenty of plaudits on the Saints match thread for last nights win, but I don’t mind admitting I find it unsettling  bearing in mind the subject matter discussed here. If and when the wheels finally do come off, I don’t think I’ll be shedding many tears.

    Not this again.

The stadium was far from free. The build was started - at huge expense - by the club and its then owner John Wilkinson. The project was only taken on by the City of Salford and Peel Holdings after various of the funding streams the club and Mr Wilkinson were trying to tap into were pulled away as a result of changes in legislation, reduction in education funding, the sudden death of one of the investors and so on.

The club was virtually bankrupted by it and the lack of resource fundamentally ended up with the team finishing 11th in 2012, last in 2013 and the club facing a wind up order.

The club was then 'rescued' by Marwan Koukash, who managed to make things worse in so many ways, including signing it up to a stadium rental deal they had little hope in being able to fulfil.

And that leads us to where we are today: the current board trying to help the club recover from the expensive stadium build and Marwan's subsequent reign of error, and people on here moaning about it.

I think folk like to moan because all they hear about is rubbish stadium deals, council bail outs & hey, here’s our latest signing.

Well done to Wakefield, they've turned up and done their job in a professional way, as a Thunder fan I wouldn't expect any different.

I know most will be aware, our start off the back of two weeks pre-season has been York, Sheffield and Wakefield it doesn't get much tougher.

We are starting from scratch trying to be sustainable. As a club we have to stick together.

What I would like is if people can make Thunder their second team as it will be tough but we do feel the goodwill of the rugby league family.

Support us if you're near where we're playing or share and like anything on social media. There is an option to buy a £50 membership online.

Good luck to Thunder for the upcoming season, hopefully this tough pre season comp will stand the squad in good stead for the challenges to come. Keep the faith mate, the game is nothing without the fans!

Sad thing is that there is nothing wrong with the terracing, it was only put in mid 1980’s . However the council in its infinite wisdom laid the first three steps beneath pitch level rendering it almost useless. Had they laid it correctly it wouldn’t need much work at all. Oh the mistakes of the past.

Could be wrong here but I thought the low terracing around the ground was historic due to a track which used to be in place, much before my time! I used to watch from the terracing under the old west stand as a kid & don’t remember it being any better.

There signings haven't been horrible, it’s just that there recruitment has been entirely from second grade football besides Kennedy. The only players they have that have ever played first grade will be Miloudi, Walker, Butler, Kennedy and Adebiyi. None of whom were great contributors in SL.

It seems unlikely that so many players will step up to the new level, maybe 3 or 4 guys have a good season other than that I can see London really struggling.

It looks like Kershaw may be coming, which would be a fantastic signing and probably there best yet, but a winger cannot carry a team. Hopefully they pick up a few loans from top SL clubs, Maybe guys like Royle, Harvie Hill, Rouge etc.

Kershaw is a good honest player who gives everything & wears his heart on his sleeve but don’t build him up too much, plenty of defensive frailties in his game. For the record I’d have loved to have kept him at Wakey, don’t know went on with that one.

You do me a disservice, I'm not in your league Morris.

Just to clarify, Carter was there when I was there and he was talking to members of the Ellis team. They all looked happy and welcoming towards him, and he in return. This is what I saw, and that is all I've claimed. What none of them did Morris was to waddle over to me and casually explain the clubs detailed financial state, as per Agbriggs assertion. Is it starting to sink in yet Morris?

Someone says Carter is not welcome at the club & someone says he is, I’ve no idea either way. Personally I hope he is welcome but I ain’t gonna lose any sleep over it. I was alluding to your comments regarding other posters sense of self importance, something which I perceive you to excel at. Is it starting to sink in yet Pouchy?

Are you Vastman on the other forum by any chance?

You're wasting your time with Agbrigg and Omega, they hear what they want to hear. They just want to create their own narrative to feel important and settle old scores. With fans like them, our club doesn't need enemies.

The fact remains that Ellis bought the club after doing due diligence, so to anyone with a brain that clearly shows it was far from being a basket case. He's a fan, but he's not an idiot.

As for Carter, I believe he was down at BV last week advising the club on certain issues, I believe he was most welcome.

Haha I love that,  Agbrigg & Omega create their own narrative to feel important & you don’t. You’re the biggest wind bag on here!

In the Glover days the announced crowd figures were laughable, no way on Gods Green Earth did they represent the actual numbers in the ground. Regulars at Belle Vue would suggest 4000 in today and the crowd was given as 8000, it was a joke .

Were you there then? ###### business model, nearly bankrupt the club but he sold dirt cheap season tickets & handed out freebie’s, it was packed out! This guy is pushing affordable season & people have responded. The attendances discussed earlier are possible.

If/when we are back in Superleague we could push 8,000 and in a few years maybe 10,000 should we manage to reach a Cup Final and generate some pride amongst the Cities lapsed sport fans.

Another thing that will generate crowds is the fact that visiting fans will eventually have a new West Stand, decent toilets, cover from the rain and quality concession outlets. People are more likely to travel if they know the fan experience is guaranteed to be a good one.
Also, if Matt Ellis can realise his ambitions of making Wakefield Trinity an exciting competitive team then results will always be unpredictable as opposed to knowing your team will win at Belle Vue which also makes for a better match experience.

When Glover was in charge & pushing cheap tickets we were getting 7 of 8000 most home games & we got 10000 at home to Leeds back then. There is still a lot of latent support for the club in the city, it’s just being in the doldrums for that long it became an object of derision. This guy appears to be the real deal and hopefully will get those stay away fans back on board. He’s talking about a new training facility now, I’m still pinching myself!

Bit of a coincidence that you all seem to be wakey fans 🤷‍♂️ good luck with your season. We we see where Salford end up

No coincidence bud, Trinity get slagged off by all and sundry (and certain other clubs) and Salford are everyone’s second favourite team suddenly. You get sick of hearing it after a while. Dboy and others have highlighted this issue for ages, the club just doesn’t add up for a lot of folk. Some of the stuff posted on here is way over the top & I think Salford have got off lightly tbh.

Regardless of all that I hope Salford get it sorted quickly, it’s awful for the fans to see & that’s something else Trinity fans know all about.
