That was one of the most bizarre incidents I can remember seeing in a rugby league game. The Toulouse player went over in the corner, the referee seemed set to award the try. Meanwhile, the touch judge didn't have an ideal viewpoint to see if the ball was touched down correctly because he had to go slightly infield to avoid Widnes assistant coach Ste Tyrer, who for some reason was loitering near the cornerflag in exactly the position the TJ would have needed to go to adjudicate if the ball was grounded.

The touch judge had no view of the grounding of the ball and the referee looked at the other touch judge put his whistle to his lips and pointed to the ground to award the try.  But meanwhile, Tyrer followed the touch judge, touched him at one point and started remonstrating with him vigorously to suggest there had been a knock on, waving his arms at the touch judge. Neither the touch judge nor Tyrer had had any sort of view of the grounding but the touch judge was clearly unsettled by Tyrer - on at least two occasions he turned to him and shouted angrily at him - and after appearing to award the try, the ref spoke to the TJ (with Tyrer still in close attendance) and the try was disallowed.

It may have ended up being the right decision - it was unclear from the TV pictures but Laguerre may have dropped the ball as he went over the line - but the pressure put on the touch judge by a member of the coaching staff standing right next to him is surely intolerable and the RFL have to have a good look at that, it's a terrible look.

I've seen a couple of posts earlier on the thread saying the try was disallowed for a forward pass by the TJ, that's clearly not the case, he opened his arms as if to say play on, carried on running beyond the tryline and then well after the ball was touched down he was staring intently to see where it was, which suggests he only made his mind up about whether it was a try or not at that point, based on where the ball was a few seconds after the play was over. Play Toulouse1.jpg.f7126837ff72b0f1c16ddb364eacf936.jpgresumed with a 20m tap which confirms the decision was given as a knock on over the line.

Not at all detracting from a tremendous performance by Widnes btw, just think something needs to be done  to prevent that sort of interference in the officials' decision making happening again.

The incident happens at about 1:57.20 by the way

Ste Tyrer. He was on the pitch for most of the 2nd half, and I have yet to have a reply why. Is there a rule about coaching staff allowed on the pitch? Do they think that they can get away with something different being in France?

As an experiment, I will now video the visiting team staff on the pitch. Just for my own intérest.

We were on, or abouts, the 10m line when that try was scored. The assistant was behind the play and Ste Tyrer was blocking him from seeing the ball grounded.

It was a try. The referee decided differently and we are where we are.

    I am all for a game of 13 v 13, but...

I can't understand why the visiting side need someone on the pitch constantly. Do the Widnes players need someone constantly telling them which way to run?

TO had enough chances to win that match but they didn't. Widnes were very lucky in the end, but that doesn't detract from the way they played.

I've not heard anything, via occitanie have not shown any super 13 games this year, the natv company has closed down too so they won't be showing any games,

This popped up last night which is good news as it will reach a wider audience

    It's the internet/red button of equipe 21

So you need to go through the internet to watch. So not on the main tv channel,

I'm not sure if they'll be paying the production costs or paying any money to the club for the rights. Probably not

if it;s like the TO "deal" last season, the club pay the production costs.

Do you know if the ViaOccitanie "deal" is going ahead this year for TO ?

    Armitage signed for Bradford

Yes, TO offloaded him. I liked him, very personable chap. If he can stay injury free he will do well. Strange that he went to the UK though, I thought he would stay in France given his history and that his brothers are still here. I thought he might go back to 15's with his brother Steffon who was at Nice recently but has moved on to CO Berre.

Would like to see Wail Skoundri get signed to the Toulouse first team. Quality middle foward, 22 years old arguably the best player in the Toulouse 2nd team. Very deserving of a first team call up.

I hope so. He was on the team sheet a couple of times last season and played I think.

    H has gone to Pia

I'm hearing reports that Guy Armitage has also left the club. I liked him, he was a very personable chap, very approachable. I wonder if he also will stay in France.

  6. Out with the old, in with the new.

Sorry to see H leave, maybe one season too much but he managed to get to the end without injury. He seems to have been around for decades.

However: new kid on the block, another youngster from the TO academy has signed a professional contract for next season:

I don't think there is any revenue from French TV deals. At most they will be done "at cost". Often some of those costs will be being covered by the French club... which the away side is very welcome to contribute to!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

It used to be the case that TO had to stump up the production costs for a live feed. I'm not so sure if they do now with this ViaOccitanie deal. I'm not as close to the club anymore as I used to be so can't verify it. Maybe @PECETTO can offer a view.

I agree with this, the Championship doesn't have a TV deal and so any "exceptional" club should pay the extra costs if they want to join the league. If you can't, don't join.

Similarly in Super League, that comp comes with a TV deal you all collectively sell, and if you can't afford the costs associated with being in that league in order to access that revenue (including foreign travel) then you're very welcome in the Championship.

A question: for those TO matches televised (here in France) do the away side get any revenue from it?

12 tickets sold by Toulouse for a grand final is pathetic to say the least. The Bulls took quite a few fans to Toulouse for the semi with a weeks notice for travel, if Toulouse want to be in SL then at least get up for a final where points are at stake and support your team.

I looked into it. I have to take the loss of 2 days not working so factoring in that cost it would be around 1800euro for the 2 of us to go. There is a bigger contingent of TO fans based in and around Manchester so I would think they would help the numbers.

They fought back from 18-0 down. It was pretty close up until the 50 minute mark.

    24-16 at 50'

TO were throwing the ball around a bit more than normal. Not sure what to take from that match other than being positive and a bit of momentum, and allowing Jake some kicking practice.

Edit: A bit of a worry with Sita going off with a bad ankle.
