  1. I reckon you're right. Here's a back of a fag packet group of players who could do it IMHO. Some won't because of nice salaries/family etc. Walmsley, Thompson, Makinson, Grace, Lomax, Fages, Knowles, Connor, Taylor, Shaul, Watts, Trueman, McMeeken, Garcia, Julien, McGillvary, Leeming, Watkins, Walker, Johnstone.
  2. The Mole also said they were interested in SBW. The Dogs are skint, so make of that what you will. Worth taking with a pinch of salt. I remember reading somewhere that Thompson's dad is a multi millionaire, so I guess chasing dollars is not his priority. If he did try his hand in the NRL, you'd think Nathan Brown would have had a quiet word - Same with Theo Fages who is rumoured to be on the move... Although, if I was the Dragons I'd try and get Thompson in as as a replacement for Jammer or (if convicted/banned) JDB.
  3. So Round 6. Sam and Bateman on 6 points in Dally M reckoning. Munster leads with 11. Dragons v Manly Widdop still out but Graham plays. Jordan Pereira who put his hand up for England has been going great on the wing. Souths v Bulldogs Sam now captain after GI retirement, twins both in as is Campbell Graham. Canberra v Brisbane All four Poms slated to play. Sutton been really impressive, still waiting for Whitehead to explode into action. Bateman and Hodgson been great. Roosters v Storm Radley fills in at 9 again, Hall expected back Rd 8. Q Cup Devils - Herbie Farnworth is second in points chart after scoring four tries and kicking goals. Next cab off the rank if Brisbane go a man down in the backs? Cutters - Alex Gerrard has been playing, Lloyd White not in this weekend - unsure why. Capras - Luke George scored just once so far this season. Bottom of the table
  4. and he had Ponga in his back pocket the week before last.
  5. Pangai with a dog shot on Cronk last night. Think the comparisons with Taumalolo are overblown personally. JT was way ahead of him at that age and had already won a Dally M. Think Broncos are looking really shaky. Boyd looks half the player and their halves are erratic. No organisation https://twitter.com/NRLonNine/status/1113735860665573376
  6. And he goes up against Cam on Friday! Should be a cracker
  7. ROUND 2 TEAMS Brisbane v Melbourne Herbie Farnworth - at Norths Devils in Q Cup, lost last weekend. Canberra v Melbourne John Bateman - named at 13, 2 Dally M points Josh Hodgson - starts at 9, 3 Dally M points Ryan Sutton - on the bench, only did 15 mins last weekend Elliot Whitehead - starts at second row Souths v Dragons This one could get ugly!! George Burgess - still banned Sam Burgess - starts at second row after a good game v Roosters Tom Burgess - starts at prop, has had concussion Graham - starts at prop in a scratch Dragons side Widdop at No 1. McGregor under pressure to move him back to No6 Roosters v Manly Ryan Hall - still not fit Victor Radley - starts at 13 Trent Hodkinson - demoted to reserve grade Wests v Warriors Chris McQueen - named in the 21. doubt he'll play
  8. Yes he does. Throw all the Scots in. Euan Aitken (Dragons), Jarred Anderson (Dogs). Sheldon Powe-Hobbs (N Pride) and Billy McConnachie (Ipswich) in Q Cup. Lachlan Stein (Newtown)
  9. https://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/sport/16884482.blackbrook-under-18s-wrap-up-title-and-treble/ https://www.scotlandrl.com/2017/10/08/england-lions-youth-defeat-scotland-under-19s/ Backrow by looks of things, who kicks goals and played for England Lions - not academy - and won the 18s treble with Blackbrook. Not sure if they played for a SL academy. No idea where he will be playing club-wise.
  10. Looked at Big League teamlists, there's also another Englishman: Luke George - Wilf's son and of a great couple of years with Huddersfield is at the CQ Capras in the Q Cup. That's where Dave Taylor is atm. Down the road at Mackay, Lloyd White (Welsh) and Alex Gerrard, both formerly Widnes are at the Cutters.
  11. Yeah three games. Didn't play in the trials either, so imagine he'll be playing reserve grade to get fitness. He's off contract this season too.
  12. ROUND 1 TEAMS Brisbane v Melbourne Herbie Farnworth - at Norths Devils in Q Cup, scored twice last weekend. Andre Savelio - gone to Hull Canberra v Gold Coast John Bateman - named at 13 Josh Hodgson - starts at 9 Ryan Sutton - on the bench Elliot Whitehead - starts at second row Manly v Wests Trent Hodkinson - benched. Was expected to partner DCE. Likely a utility pivot this season. Souths v Roosters George Burgess - still banned Sam Burgess - starts at second row. Tom Burgess - starts at prop St George v N Qld James Graham - starts at prop Gareth Widdop - starts at FB Roosters v Souths Ryan Hall - still not fit Victor Radley - starts at 13 Wests v Manly Chris McQueen - named in the 21. doubt he'll play
  13. also would appear one of the Goulding lads is at Cowboys
  14. Can't believe nobody had posted this before... EDDIE: It's wide to West, IT'S WIDE TO WEST! INSIDE TO JOYNT, JOYNT, JOYNT ARGGGGGH, ARRRRGH! STEVO: I DON'T BELIEVE IT, I'VE NEVER SEEN A GAME WON LIKE THAT. EDDIE: IT IS FRANKLY UNBELIEVABLE... SAINT BERNARD'S ON NOW!
  15. Au contraire... "If I could play for England in this break, and come back and play for NSW I'd do it in a heartbeat"
  16. Was simply listing English-qualified players. The Aussies and Kiwis have picked players through ancestry in the past and my point was those were the ones we know about. It happens to England teams in RU and cricket too. But who else don't we know about? I concur re: Widdop, but who are we to argue? He's put his hand up time and time again and only moved there in his teens, I'd imagine he feels more English. If Gale, Widdop, Williams and Lomax are injured, is Hodkinson not the next cab off the rank? Surely that's better than picking Myler? That was my aim in listing probables and possibles. Would love to see Radley play for England and I agree it's great we have a "full English" pack playing in the NRL. The real test, as you say, will be getting a backline out here. That appears some way off: FBs: Lomax (long term deal), Tomkins (tried it and back in SL), Hardaker (who knows if he'll be playing next week!) Wings: Hall (just moved), McGillvary, Makinson (long term deals) Centres: Watkins (long term deal), Sarginson (failed), Gildart and Connor (?) Halves: Gale (long term deal), Williams (?), Myler (no thanks), Widdop (already there) Could see Williams at Canberra given the ex-Wigan connection and the fact they have some pretty poor halves. Connor could play anywhere and depends what happens at Hull given their bad patch, likewise Gildart has great natural ability, smart footballer but is he a bit too small?
  17. Radley played the majority of the Roosters' season last year, he won a GF, can play loose, hooker and second row. He will probably play against Wigan and win the WCC. He's 19, if England don't cap him soon then yes, you are right, he may be lost to NSW and Australia. I'd call him up in a heartbeat, he's only going to get better and his versatility is a massive bonus.
  18. Long time lurker, first time poster here. Had never heard of the lad Farnworth. Good luck to him, and hope Savelio can get fit and back to the level of quality he showed at Saints and Wire. I’ve seen a thread previously, but as a Pom living in Aus I thought it would be good to compile the Englishmen (and English qualified) playing down under. Remember an ex-pro saying a while ago the only way we’d beat the Kangaroos is if we had 30+ English lads in the NRL. Looks like we’re not far off having a 17. Brisbane Herbie Farnworth Andre Savelio Canberra John Bateman Josh Hodgson Ryan Sutton Elliot Whitehead Cronulla Josh Morris (already capped by Australia) Manly Trent Hodkinson Souths George Burgess Sam Burgess Tom Burgess St George James Graham Gareth Widdop Sydney Roosters Ryan Hall Brett Morris (already capped by Australia) Victor Radley Wests Chris McQueen As far as I can see: Canterbury, Gold Coast, Melbourne, NZ, Newcastle, North Queensland, Parramatta and Penrith don’t have any English players - though am sure there are loads qualified for England if anyone cares to point them out. Anyone missing?
