  1. Memo to Martyn Sadler and League Express-no one refers to a drop goal as a field goal as can be gleaned from this topic and all the presenters and commentators this afternoon.

As regards the match it looked as though Rovers were getting a taste of their own medicine with Harry Smith’s Abdul-like up and unders, which surprisingly they had no idea how to deal with. By the way is Abdull fit for the final?

well 24hrs gone by, loads of discussion and yet no one has a clue how all this will pan out. We don't even know for sure how many teams will be in the top league.

Soccer is by far the most successful team sport, followed by cricket and Rugby Union. I bet their supporters would not accept all this garbage.

Can you imagine newbies, or fringe supporters being bemused when the league year ends and trying to work out who goes up and down.

Dad takes his lad to introduce him to rugby League and he asks " why are we getting relegated because we have finished above that other team"

Dad repliers "Because they have LED floodlights son, we don't"

Or union Wasps/Worcester/ London Irish supporting dad says we can’t go cos we’ve gone bust!!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned so apologies if so. But when Whitehaven reached their SL playoff final in 2004(?) there was talk afterwards that many of the players hearts weren't truly in it. Not because they were cheating or anything but because many of them had pretty decent jobs anyway and getting to SL meant choosing between going full time (which may have been brief) or staying with their career.

There was no indication that this was really true but it certainly would have made sense.

Whitehaven players heart’s not in it? You have got to be joking!! That match was one of the most exciting games l‘ve ever seen while watching Leigh. 16-16 at full time, we only won due to an inspired display from Neil Turley.

Also, it was great see to the most Haven fans backing the team, than I’d ever seen before, and they were very close to winning the match.

  4. Aren’t we thankful we didn’t follow the path of rugby union with regards to the cash injection from C.V.C. an investment company? Not only that but they gained access to considerably higher Covid Loans from the government, yet 25% of their top flight clubs have gone bust.

  5. If a new deal comes and it includes showing all matches over Thursday,Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I’m all for it. I’m fed up of almost every week 4 games or sometimes even 5  on a Friday night with none on a Sunday.

As a Leigh fan, all but one home game has been on Thursday or Friday night, and I have noticed how small the away support has been from the Yorkshire clubs especially Leeds. Hopefully if they are spread over the weekend, all the Lancashire and Yorkshire derbies would be played on Thursday/Friday and the rest on Saturday/Sunday where possible.

Yes I was there well before '71 and that was a good team put to gether by Murph using his experience and nous by advertising nationwide for hopefuls to contact for a trial, and the '81 team of which as you say was made up of a lot of local lads who I knew personally very well and were good mates, it was a great team in it's time and obviously headed by Woody and Dessie.

But this present squad as @Leigh-On-Kiwi states for the short time it has been together they are showing some tremendous skill and camaraderie, will they get any better is the million dollar question, with one or three quality additions in the Woody or Dessie mould in the backs - Mr Lam unearthed French and Field for the British game, no saying he can't do that again, and that is taking nothing away from Amone and Asiata who are as good as any forwards from down under for quite a while.

Don’t forget the 81/2 team were part time. Imagine what they would have been like if they were full time!!

    I object your honour.

This Leigh team is producing some scintillating football, and I don't believe that I have ever in my 60 years of watching this sport - well especially Leigh - have I seen a team that is so much together and plays for each other, obviously it can't be ruled out what you suggest MZH, but for it to happen there will have to be two massive turn arounds in form, Wakey to enormously improve in structure and effort and Leigh to implode on themselves from the form they have been showing.

If you have been watching the game for 60 years as I have, how can you forget the Alex Murphy coached teams of 70/1 and 81/2, both composed of English players, especially the latter made up of local lads. Don’t forget they won the Top

league with only 5 losses. They did play scintillating rugby too. John Woods and Des Drummond cannot be bettered by the present incumbents.

Having said that, this team is the best one since then with an honourable mention to the 2 promoted squads of 2016 and 2022.

Half a dozen of one, 6.56 of another.

I don't know the answer but I always assumed the 22 metre line in union was due to converting 25 yards, although checking the math it appears to be closer to 23m.

On the flip side, I also thought that the 110 yard CFL field was due to converting a sensible 100m field into yards to better align with the neighbours.

Curious to see if anyone has some good historical knowledge.

It’s maths not math, we’re not yanks. The proper word is mathematics not mathematic. Therefore maths!!
