You need to pick up quickly. Next week's game against us is massive for both teams. Will probably give a reflection as to where we both stand.

We know the result already.  Donnie’s demolition of Barrow tells me all I need to know.

I think this could be a topic all on its own.

Interest in RL is dwindling at a time when it is far more accessible on TV, just not at our level.

These forums are just a place where people moan, the fun has gone altogether. Even Piggy's Mate has disappeared!!! (Can't believe I've just written that!!, but it's ok he's not on here any longer.....please don't tell him!)

Interest is at all time low because the game is run by clowns.   We lost our way years ago and have now lost all our maps.
I can’t see a future for anything other than Super Duper Lesgue and I suspect but many of their fans even know there is a league 1😦

  3. Always tough at their gaff and it’s hard to see a win for me unless we have our injured trio back.
amazingly I hadn’t twigged that Piggy’s mate had disappeared. Hope its not bad news on that front.

  4. Thought the lads worked hard today and once I’d seen we had neither Callum or Bailey I wasn’t expecting us to take the points.   Any team would miss those two.  No idea what happened to Rush but he might have made a difference so his absence also added to our travails 😦
That said, their pack was v strong and laid the foundations for a fairly comfortable win in the end.   Still need the pack to look to offload a little more but can’t complain about the work rate and for long periods our defence was nearly as good as last week.

  5. No Bailey on Sunday I see.   Suspect thats down to that  naughty little challenge from our old friend Dale Morton last week?  Will be a blow that, but hopefully we will see Owen back.    Will miss Baileys ability to break the line though🤨

    Officials for sunday

    • Referee: M. Lynn
    • Reserve Referee: J. Collier
    • Touch Judge 1: P. Brooke
    • Touch Judge 2: L. O'brien
    • Time Keeper: G. Kershaw

I'd happily take Fridays ref again.  Thought Mr Bennet was as good as we've seen at our gaff for ages and certainly better than that SL ref we had for the Boxing Day match.

From there we played York at home in the CC and we were unlucky to lose. Coach selected pretty much same team v Fax in round 1 apart from enforced changes through injury. Team played solid enough and IMHO with the same performance v Batley yesterday we would have beat a poor Fax. Yesterday same 17 apart from R Dixon beat Fax. So at this moment in time who are you standing down for Owen? I posted a short while ago that I want all 17 fighting for a spot.

I'm sticking with the same comment I've posted several times already and then I'll leave alone for a while.   Owen back to FB and Bailey to 4, where I think he would be more involved.   It's easy to forget after Friday's win that last season it was Bailey making the breaks and who was ALWAYS the one backing up?  Yep, Owen.   I've nowt against Marcus Walker and the coach must see something I don't (is his defence better?) but for me a back line of Owen, Bailey and Ollie would be up there with the best.

Bailey O'Connor has real quality, great under the high ball and dangerous on attack. Superb break for the first try. I know some want Restall back but O'Connor was superb tonight.

Hasn't changed my view.   Bailey at 4 and Owen at 1 and we'd be rocking...Both players are class...

I Iike the optimism and agree we could grind out a win if we play at our best, but  score 24 points🤔.   Nah…..

    Hi

I used to go watch rams play with family back in the days of Barry Eaton playing but unfortunately not been in many years but always come on this forum, watch out for the results and even watch the highlights on youtube and if i can get a free stream watch the games, Going off topic was thinking about the future correct me if i am wrong but Mark Sawyer is 57 ? if correct he's getting towards The big 60 in the not to distant future what do we think will happen once hes not here anymore any indication maybe that someone from the sawyer family will take over ? or even a foreign or English businessman taking over that's got more money ? i wonder if mark has a plan in place ? I know Dewsbury may never be a big big club but with a little more money behind them maybe they could go fulltime ? expend the stadium even more etc etc ? Sometimes something little can make the difference pushing the rugby club a bit further up the pyramid bringing everything up to date technology wise. Wondered if people had any thoughts regards to the next say 10 years going forward what might happen to the mighty Dewsbury Rams ?

a good post but one would need a crystal ball to even guess what might happen.   Come the new world of IMG we might even disappear for good, who knows.....

I heard different,I suppose it depends who you talk to.

I guess it does but if he is fit enough for 18 Id also assume he was fit enough for 1.

He is returning from an injury, remember, so may not have been fully fit.

It is a change though to be discussing which of our various options we should select. I believe there is still a discussion around the forwards and whether our veteran goalkicker is worthy of selection and, if so, where.

No injuries apparently.  Rather depressingly he simply wasn’t picked.

Was a bit worried about yesterday after the pre-season outings, but we competed well for much of the match, and with a bit more composure / luck we could have won.

    Few thoughts from me:-

    • Backs all played well, liked Restall last year, so hope he can get back in, but not sure where O'Connor then fits (maybe right centre)
    • Hookem had his best game for us, but I still think he's a hooker, rather than a half-back
    • We look so mire threatening when Turner kicks, especially in the attacking third of the pitch, not sure why we stopped that until yesterday, when we could easily have had 3 tries from kicks
    • Rush looked good, unlucky with his chip over the top, which bounced on and on, when all other kicks had stopped in the mud, that was a certain try if it had of stopped
    • We missed Dixon yesterday, think his go forward would have made a real difference, especially from the bench, at the moment, we don't get any oommmpphh from bench changes
    • Sadly, we had a 15 minute spell where we lost rhythm, and gave away too many penalties, that let them escape their own line, when we went down to 12 players, it was all over with their two quick tries
    • Couldn't fault the effort from the 3 giants, certainly gave their all

My changes for Batley would be (assuming everyone fit):-

    • Restall to full back, O'Connor in the centre
    • Rush starts at scrum half, Hookem to impact hooker (like Sam Day used to be)
    • Dixon on the bench in place of one of the props
    • If Graham is fit, him back to second row
    • Sykes can always do a job, and is utility enough to cover lots of places, worth a place on the bench maybe?????

What did everyone else think? Ultimately, we need to try and get a couple of 'surprise' wins at home against the middle ranked teams (Batley, Sheffield, York & Halifax), but the big matches are the Cumbria, Swinton and Doncaster ones this year. Win against them and we will be okay.

I thought the decision to play our best try scorer at 18 and one of our more creative players out of the way at FB ensured our prolific early season try scoring continued into the league unabated …😜

Bailey at 4, Owen at FB is no brainer for me

PS.  Will be surprised if Doncaster don’t finish in the top half come September

Fax are indeed down to 20 players already. Crooks, O'Brien and Calcott all ruled out with long term injuries from the Hammersmith game! 🙄 I for one though aren't hoping for DR from Leeds or anywhere else. As for the match which i've been looking forward to since the fixtures came out, i've just heard that there's no concession price. Is that correct? 🤔

It is.  Everyone watching us is so old Concessions made no sense .......

So, having seen some of the Championship teams in action on TV and judging by results and recruitment, how will the table pan out this season?

Promotion by winning the Final won't be on offer this year but pride will drive some teams on. Relegation still hasn't finally been clarified but it looks like the status quo will apply with any changes taking place following the 2025 season so we should assume that the bottom two will go down. DR or loans might play a part again this year but with increased time our for HIA cases SL clubs will be wanting plenty of back up so maybe not so many players will be available as some clubs hope.

I will stick my neck out and predict:

    1. Wakefield

    2. Toulouse

    3. Bradford

    4. Featherstone

    5. Sheffield

    6. Halifax

    7. Batley

    8. York

    9. Barrow

    10. Widnes

    11. Swinton

    12. Doncaster

    13. Dewsbury

    14. Whitehaven

Don't think you'll be far off there BSJ, but surely Donny to finish higher after their spending splurge?

And the ground was rocking, packed to the rafters (😉 😉)

The "good old days" weren't as good as some remember.

(It was NickD who said "half-decent" but I won't take it to heart.)

half decent was 100% tongue in cheek.  My dad reckons he was best at centre...

I remember him. Don't think he was particularly successful, but I don't recall us having a particularly good team either.

I don't remember him at all but he was hero of my dads.   Apparently a half decent winger.......
