Wigan’s new Head of Analysis

Following our recent Coaching Team announcement for 2022 and beyond, we take a look at the career so far of Jack Phillips – our new first team Head of Analysis.

Phillips joins Wigan in charge of first team analysis having spent time with a variety of sports clubs including Newcastle United, England RU, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

Phillips started off studying Sports coaching at the University of Chester, a course which landed him a voluntary placement with Warrington Wolves Foundation in 2012, before being offered a full-time Community Coach role.

Whilst working with the Foundation, he was then offered a role as a Performance Analyst for the Warrington Wolves Academy teams, prompting a return to the University of Chester on a Master’s degree for Performance Analysis. Phillips remained with the Wolves during his studies, as well as their partner Club at the time, Swinton Lions.

During the years of 2015 – 2017, remaining in current roles with the Wolves, Phillips also started working with the first team under the previous Head Analyst gaining valuable knowledge and experience and was part of the team to win the League Leaders’ Shield and reach both finals in 2016.

In 2018, Phillips was appointed Head of Analysis at Warrington Wolves under Steve Price. During his time, he was part of the team that appeared in a Challenge Cup and Grand Final in 2018, as well as the Challenge Cup winning team in 2019.
