JOHN CARTWRIGHT has confirmed Hull FC’s interest in Newcastle Knights halfback Jake Arthur.
The 22-year-old has been given permission to exit Newcastle after finding first-team opportunities limited.
And father Brad Arthur, who is weighing up his future as Leeds Rhinos head coach, has confirmed that a Super League opportunity is on the table for his son.
Hull are said to be leading the chase for the halfback, who made his 30th NRL appearance in Friday’s defeat to Penrith Panthers, and coach Cartwright said: “He can play an organising half, or he can play on his edge.
“We’ve done a fair bit of homework on him. He’s made his way into first-grade at Newcastle this week.
“I don’t know how that factors into his decision, how he plays this week, but I think he would do really well in Super League.”
Brad Arthur said of the prospect of Jake joining him in Yorkshire: “I’ve given him advice but he’s 22 now, he doesn’t want to listen to me.
“He’s at a stage of his career where he’s getting an opportunity this weekend to play and he’s grateful for Newcastle giving him an opportunity.
“But he’s got an opportunity over here where he might be able to run his own team and that’s up to him. I’ve told him it’s a good competition.”
