Lucas Walshaw suffers horrific injury

Dewsbury’s on loan forward Lucas Walshaw was on the receiving end of a gruesome injury last weekend, as he bit off part of his own tongue.

The 21-year-old – who is on loan from Wakefield – suffered the injury in the opening exchanges of the Rams’ clash against Sheffield last Sunday.

Coach Glenn Morrison confirmed that Walshaw has returned to his parent club, and will be out for a few weeks with the bizarre injury.

“It wasn’t pretty,” said Dewsbury coach Glenn Morrison.

“They couldn’t stop the bleeding so they got him off and then saw the end of his tongue hanging off.

“He toughed it out and spent the night in hospital where they re-attached it with about a dozen stitches.

“I’ve spoken to him and he says it’s sore but he’ll be fine. He’s with the Wakefield medical staff and they are keeping us informed.

“Tongues usually heal pretty quickly so he should only be out for two or three weeks.”
