Patton’s Wakefield links wide of the mark

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are not in the market for Warrington halfback Declan Patton.

It had been reported elsewhere last week that the Wildcats were in the market for the young star on a loan deal as they look to further strengthen their squad for 2016. But although they are still in the market for new faces, it has been confirmed to TotalRL.com that Patton will not be arriving at Belle Vue.

The Wildcats are still keen on another halfback, and have a potential target in mind, but it is not the 20-year-old Warrington youngster.

Wakefield have already signed Liam Finn to bolster their halves ahead of 2016, one of a number of new faces brought in by Brian Smith as the Wildcats look to improve on a disappointing 2015, where they only secured their Super League status in the Million Pound Game.

The likes of Tim Smith and Danny Washbrook have left, with Super League experience in the shape of Ben Jones-Bishop, Scott Moore and Ashley Gibson all joining on permanent deals. It is believed any deal for the unnamed halfback could be Wakefield’s last piece of business for next year, with their squad approaching completion.
