Saints target Kevin Brown for 2017

St Helens could be set to make a shock play for Widnes Vikings captain Kevin Brown.

According to the new League Express, Saints are actively hunting for a new halfback next season, and although Brown remains under contract at the Vikings, Saints are seriously interested in a move for the 31-year-old, given that their current halfback Luke Walsh is out of contract at the end of the season.

Any transfer would involve a significant transfer fee, given the length of contract Brown has at Widnes and his undoubted importance to the team.

Since joining from Huddersfield in 2013, Brown has become one of Super League’s most coveted halfbacks, with the one-time England international in arguably the best form of his career to date during his spell at the Vikings.

Any move for Brown is likely to be met with strong resistance from the Vikings, however.
