Salford Red Devils plunged into injury crisis

Salford Red Devils have been struck a huge injury blow ahead of the Magic Weekend, as it was revealed both Theo Fages and Tim Smith will miss the clash against Widnes this weekend.

It leaves coach Iestyn Harris with a huge problem at half-back, with both Fages and Smith set for extended periods on the sidelines – with Smith’s absence not being fully explained by boss Harris, whose side are in dismal form, having not won in four games.

“We’ve just got a couple of issues at the moment,” said Salford coach Iestyn Harris. “I’m not going to go into too much detail but he’s unavailable at this moment in time.

“We’re not sure how long it will be. It could be a couple of weeks, it could be a couple of months. We’ve just got to wait and see how things develop over the next few weeks.”

As for Fages, a shoulder injury suffered against Hull KR has curtailed his chances of taking Smith’s place in the team, with the young Frenchman potentially missing for the next month at least.

“Theo got hit late with a bit of a shoulder charge,” Harris said. “We’ll get more of an assessment tomorrow but we’re looking optimistically at three weeks but pessimistically at five so it will be somewhere in between.”
