Tomkins reveals return date

Sam Tomkins has targeted April for his return to action.

The fullback endured a stop-start season in 2016, with a broken foot seeing him miss the end of the Super 8s and Wigan’s Grand Final victory.

He managed 16 appearances in 2016 having also missed the start of the campaign due to a knee operation.

But with his rehabilitation going to plan, Tomkins has his sights set on next season and is hopeful that his injury troubles are behind him.

“I’ve been really lucky with injuries during my career and then I’ve done my knee and broke my foot – two major injuries – in a year, so it’s bad timing,” he told Wigan Today.

“Right now I’m doing a lot of rehab, a lot of weights.

“I can’t run yet but the moon-boot is now off and that’s a luxury, being able to wash my leg! Touch wood, the injury has healed and I’d say April (for a return).”
