TotalRL’s 12 Players of Christmas: Huddersfield Giants

The mini-series in full so far:
Castleford Tigers: Brandon Westerman
Catalans Dragons: Jordan Dezaria

It’s the run to Christmas 2016 – and here at, we’re taking a look at 12 players – one a day – who could be the next big breakout stars in Super League next season.

We’re running in alphabetical order, and after starting with Castleford and Catalans, we’re back in England looking at Huddersfield Giants. 2016 was a struggle for Rick Stone’s side – who is their brightest young talent ahead of 2017?

Jared Simpson
Position: Fullback
Date of birth: January 4 1996

Huddersfield fans are well accustomed to the ability of young fullback Jared Simpson – not least after the way he burst onto the scene in 2015.

But despite a difficult 2016 for the youngster, we’re still expecting 2017 to be his big breakout year. With Scott Grix leaving the Giants and Ryan Brierley set for an extended run in the halves, it leaves Simpson in direct competition with Jake Mamo for the fullback berth at the club.

The son of the iconic former England international Roger, the Huddersfield star has all the tools to establish himself as a top star in Rick Stone’s side next year.
