TotalRL’s 12 Players of Christmas: Hull FC

The mini-series in full so far:
Castleford Tigers: Brandon Westerman
Catalans Dragons: Jordan Dezaria
Huddersfield Giants: Jared Simpson

It’s the run to Christmas 2016 – and here at TotalRL.com, we’re taking a look at 12 players – one a day – who could be the next big breakout stars in Super League next season.

We’re running in alphabetical order, and we’re now onto Super League giants Hull FC. 2016 was a year like no other for Lee Radford’s men – but can the Wembley winners go one better in the league in 2017? Here’s who we think is their next big thing.

Masi Matongo
Position: Prop
Date of birth: May 15 1996

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Hull prop Masi Matongo has already made his senior debut for FC earlier in his career.

That came against Wigan in late-2015, when he debuted alongside a number of other stars from the club’s Academy. In 2016, Matongo became a pivotal part of the club’s new-look reserve side – and we’re tipping him to go one better in 2017.

Only 20 years of age, Matongo is already an imposing figure for Hull FC fans to get excited about. The popular prop is renowned by those who know him at Hull for being one of the more skilful props the club have, with his offloading ability certainly a trait of his to watch out for.

Matongo will likely get bigger and better in the coming years – and in 2017, Hull fans may start to see him becoming a regular face in their first team.
