Trinity hold off Rhinos charge

Wakefield Trinity held off a strong fightback from Leeds Rhinos to register a 26-24 win to bounce back from their Good Friday defeat to Castleford Tigers.

Wakefield raced into a 12-point lead early in the game when Mason Caton-Brown set up Lee Kershaw and then Reece Lyne intercepted a pass before running 80 metres.

But Leeds pegged the home side back to level the scores at half-time.  Liam Sutcliffe collected Richie Myler’s kick before Brett Ferres touched down off the back of Trent Merrin’s offload.

Wakefield came out of the blocks fast in the second half. Two penalties for Ryan Hampshire plus tries for Ben Jones-Bishop and Max Jowitt had the home side cruising.

Both Matt Parcell and Tuimoala Lolohea crossed for the away side but it wasn’t enough for victory.
