I was just wondering should McNamara be taking the likes of Widdop (starting full back?), Johnny Lomax (interchange?), Michael Lawrence (interchange?), Leeroy Cudjoe (interchange?) and possibly Richard Owens (too much of a risk seeing as he's been out for the season?) to the Gillette 4 Nations to try to build-up the squad for the RLWC 2013 rather than just looking at the G4N?

Well, what I mean is: the best 2 or 3 youngsters to travel as part of the full squad?

Who do you think he should take? I'd definitely want him to have both Widdop & Lomax to be in the squad he takes with him.

He should take players who are good enough. Michael Lawerence and Widdop are, not to sure about Lomax yet. Richard Owen and Leeroy Cudjoe? You've got to be joking right?

I'm a big fan of Leroy Cudjoe's. As an outside bet, how about Larne Patrick too?

I think it would be excellent if he took 3 or 4 for the ride. I think Mossop at Wigan will be a fantastic player but couldn't displace the big guns ahead of him for now. I remember they took Morley on a tour/World 9s when he was very young and that seemed to benefit him greatly. I rate Cudjoe. If Lomax is the standard then we should take Goulding and Stef Marsh as well, but there are better players. It would be good for them to take Owen as he looks class to me.

I'd take a few young 'uns for the experience alone.

I'd also take a couple of old heads along too, just in case, I still think Senior would be worth a spot on current form.

If I had to choose one player I've seen play well and often I'd pick Elliot Whitehead. I'll let other fans choose their own club's choices; Lomax, Mossop, Cudjoe, etc. I don't often listen to Phil Clarke but maybe Whiting could go...

i think it would be great to take a few of the younger "talent" along on tour.

but for me.... why not have an academy 4 nations before each game?????

how good would that be???
how easy to create???
great for the future stars and easier to spot the talent, plus the danger players of the future.

only an idea, guess someone will shoot me down.

id be happy with everyone going who has been mentioned, bar cudjoe.. i thought he was gonna really kick on a season or two ago.. but i just dont know, theres something i cant quite put my finger on.. but its enough to stop me from putting him forward like the others mentioned.

lawrence i think would benefit hugely, as would larne patrick..

I'm all for taking kids, think we need to find a balance though bearing in mind how much of our hopes we'll be pinning on the likes of Tomkins, Eastmond and maybe another young half if Sam is playing full back, given how much of our hopes we'll no doubt be pinning on them.

Great idea, although I taking fifty odd players down-under may be a bit of an issue cost wise.

Agree, but surely its a gamble worth taking, and an avenue to explore.

Plus getting there own sponsorships deals and TV deals could help fund the trip.

also, only take a 20 man squad (allowing a rule to pool players say 3 with the open age)

The thing is end of season international tournemants arn't for 'building for the future' and taking kids for the sake of it, they are there to be won and you should take the best players available.

Win this years competition and deal with the competition in 4 years time when it comes around to it.

Take stars, not future stars that arn't quite there yet.

Surely an Academy tier Four Nations is great for the game.

Plus it already happens in the 6nations and U21's WC so why not in RL.

Just a question???

Yeah I'd love to see as a academy curtain raiser before the main games. It would allow juniors to tour/train at same venues alongside stars and get the feel for a tour/international comps.

Countries could do this as part of prep of juniors for the future without hindering their chances of the current senior competition.

Great idea to take a couple of young players but would they be future stars only with no intention of getting on the field: if so could take anyone really even people with little 1st team exp. Or are we looking at people who could add to the squad as well in which case you look at cuurent good players with international potential in the near future.

Patrick, and Whiting are great but arent actually that young i dont think.

there are plenty of young 1st team regulars like Chris Riley, Mossop, Lawrence, cudjoe, Myler, Whitehead etc who would benefit and prob do a job v PNG for experience.

Theres also those that are less regular like Lomax, Emmitt, Thompson at cas, Marsh etc who would prob be less able to play and would be more there for the tour experience.

Id be inclined to just take 2 a forward and a back and at the moment Id maybe look at Mossop and Lawrence.

Just found this article about Michael Lawrence, seems as if the under 20's are off on a tour of their own. 3 Games against the Kiwis, I'll look out for their results.

Really rate Lawrence, I think he's going to be a very good player in a couple of years.

I don't have an SL team to support so I'm a neutral. I think people on here seem to really underrate Lomax, due to club bias(?). He's a fantastically talented youngster. I'd say why not have 2 pre-/post-European Cup Tests? England 'A' (under 23?) Vs France & England 'A' Vs Wales? In the UK or France? Couldn't the RFL make that work?
