Naughton Park isn't extinct.

It's the same site as the old ground just renamed and with new stands.

The old ground that was knocked down in 1996 (?) wouldn't have had any of the structures left in place from the original build in 1895 (despite appearances!) but it was still the same venue.

A few people have just listed grounds they've been to that still exist. Cliff and SR have listed Craven Cottage, Welford Road and Sixfields stadium Northampton which are still there unless I'm mistaken.

That is true. I read "defunct" as in no longer a RL ground, rather than disappeared, abandoned, or demolished.

That's like saying "this is the same yard brush but with a different handle and a new head"

Following that logic any ground becomes defunct once the last remnant of its original structure is replaced.

So the old Headingley is no more, not to mention Goodison Park, Old Trafford etc.

I'm getting confused about "defunct".

If Cliff can get it wrong anyone can......

Anyway I went down Newmarket Lane today and easily found the site of Wakeys new ground. The entrance is marked by an old sign saying Newmarket Colliery Regeneration Site, a sign from when they took away the tips and demolished the colliery rather than the sort of sign that Cas have on their coal tip.

It's also marked by colliery rail lines still crossing the Lane.

If this does not come off, and planning is refused will this be the newest defunct ground, and should I add it in here?

With the imminent demise of Knowsley Road I was thinking about defunct grounds and how many I'd actually been on. I came up with:
Thrum Hall

Station Road

Crown Flatt

Tatters Field

Central Park

Victory Park

Parkside

Barley Mow

Elland Road Greyhound Stadium

Watersheddings

Hilton Park

Craven Park

Boulevard

Clarence Street

Wilderspool

Been the the lot plus, Fartown, Gilford Park Carlise, Runcorn, Alt Park, Borough Park, Prescot, Gigg Lane, Knotty Ash, McClaren Field, Wiggington Road, Chisick Poly, Owlerton, Brunton Park, Athletic Grounds, Crystal Palace Sports Stadium, The Valley, Deepdale, Ninian Park, Vetch Field (got stuffed by Wigan) mellow.gif Thrum Hall, Central Park, Maine Road, Boothferry Park and Griffin Park.

Again, Deepdale, Griffin Park and the Valley are still there. Is Crystal Palace SS still there?

Top of my head list for me....

Borough Park
Athletic Grounds
Elland rd Dog track
Boulevard
Central Park
(Knowsley Rd)
Tattersfield
Station Rd
Watersheddings
Hilton Park

1 More is nagging at my brain, I'll edit it in when it gets through.

It wasn't Maine Rd though, though that's another....
